A. VISION.

National

Provide a standard of Labour which reflects a safe and effective work-force which provides benefits for the people of the Solomon Islands.

Service

Provide at all times an effective standard of service. Ensuring the needs and expectations of both the Solomon Islands Government and National Employers are satisfied.

Performance

Achieve a high standard of excellence in order to maintain stability and growth within the Solomon Islands.

Human Resource

Assist and provide opportunities for the development of Solomon Islanders, ensuring the need of Solomon Islands Government and Private Sector are met at all times.

Public Relations

Participate constructively with the Community and the People of the Solomon Islands.

Industrial Harmony and Safety

Protect the people and the business environment of the Solomon Islands making sure at all times that industrial harmony and safe work practices are maintained.

 

B. MISSION STATEMENT (GOAL)

C. AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

  1. To promote the employment of Solomon Islanders and control immigrant workers employment.
  2. To provide protection and fair conditions of service for working people and develop and maintain constructive employer – employee relationship.
  3. To promote trade training and testing schemes and programmes to develop and advance the skills of local workers.
  4. To promote responsible and constructive trade Unionism which consider the interests of workers, their families and Communities as a whole.

F. MONITORING AND ENFORCEMENT OF CONDITIONS OF PERMIT

  1. Any changes in occupation or terms of service must be notified. Periodical checks may be made at the place of work to ensure that persons are working within the terms of their permits.
  2. The Commissioner of Labour will either cancel the permit of, or both as appropriate, any person – who is found to be failing to comply with the conditions under which such permits are issued.
  3. In most cases the company’s training program to localize the post will be checked to ensure that appropriate training is in fact being given to Solomon Islanders. If the agreed programs are not being implemented without good reason, current applications may be refused or in the case of an existing permit, cancelled.
  4. If it is found that work permits have been issued on the basis of information, which is subsequently found to be untrue, the permit is considered to be invalid and will be cancelled.
  5. Person entering Solomon Islands as visitors and found overstaying or work in breach of conditions of their permits will be ordered to leave the country immediately and future applications from them are not likely to be approved
